Oliver Mtukuzi, Zimbabwe’s most celebrated artist has sadly passed on January 23rd.
Known all over the world, Mtukudzi also known to his fans as Tuku, is reported to have passed away at the Avenues Clinic in Harare – as first reported by Zimbabwean publication, Newsday.
The 66-year-old was loved the world over, not only for his distinct style of music which heavily touched on the HIV/Aids epidemic in Africa and politics but also for human rights effort across the continent. A champion, not only for Zimbabwe but for the whole of Africa, winning multiple awards for his works including recognition for his work in uplifting African women through his artistic work.
Passing on the same day as his friend and fellow musician Hugh Masekela, fans of the celebrated jazz musician have taken to social media to celebrate the musician’s life in reaction to news of his death.
